Creature Thoughts, January 2012

A conversation with an animal is rarely like a conversation with a human, at least not for me. I know that many animal communicators, when relaying the exchange with the pet, make it sound like they are simply talking back and forth. This hasn’t been my experience, personally. For me, what comes through is like a jigsaw puzzle. Sometimes the pieces don’t even seem to go to the same puzzle. [Click title to read post ...]

A Holiday Gift for You

For the month of December, I thought I’d do something a little different. I hope you enjoy:

A Gift For Ashley (A Gift For You)

Charles settled into the giant, ornate throne, trying not to think about how hot the old Santa suit had become. Years ago, he’d handled the heavy garment better. Now that he was in his eighties, though, it had become fairly uncomfortable. Well, he thought to himself, At this point in your life you’re always either too hot or too cold. He geared himself up for the first day of his favorite time of year. There was a bright smile beneath his bushy white beard: Let’s do it for the kids! [Click title to read post ...]

The Holiday Season Is Upon Us

Doesn’t it seem like the holidays come around faster and faster every year?

I’d like to wish all my US friends and their animal families a very happy Thanksgiving week!

Creature Thoughts, November 2011

Although Nature is never cruel for the sake of being cruel, like some humans can be, survival can often be a tricky task for our wild friends. Yet, despite the fact that we can sometimes be taken aback by such things, if we keep our eyes open, we’ll also witness some very clever adaptations. Just as humans are resourceful creatures who can find interesting ways to survive, our animal neighbors are pretty ingenious as well. [Click title to read post ...]

Creature Thoughts, October 2011

Black cats. There are so many stories around about how black cats vanish during the Halloween season. Some of those stories are myth and anecdote, of course, but there is a definite thread of real caution that runs through them. A strong enough thread, in fact, that some shelters will put a hold on black cat adoptions during the month of October. While it’s growing more rare that shelters and rescue groups do this, there are real reasons to be cautions around the Halloween season, regardless of what color your pet may be. The Leg And I Are Home

The visit with Dr Resnick went well. He’s taking a conservative approach, and is starting me back on prednisone, at 30-mg/day to begin. He’ll be monitoring things carefully, and I’ll be in touch with my PCP tomorrow for things like monitoring blood glucose, etc.

It’s definitely the pyoderma gangrenosum again, so at least we [Click title to read post ...]

To Keep You Posted….

If you follow my Facebook or Twitter updates, you’re very likely already aware that my leg has “bloomed” badly again, and I’m therefore facing a health situation different from what I went through in 2008 only in that now we know what we’re dealing with. Or at least we think we know. [Click title to read post ...]
