Those Pesky Blockades

There are many who really don’t consider animal communication as one of the psychic sciences. I’m not really sure why this is, as, when you break it down into its active components, you will find it’s a combination of telepathy and empathy, with some remote viewing, clairvoyance and clairaudience, a bit of psychometry, and various other details tossed in. Perhaps it’s just the word “psychic” that some people aren’t keen to embrace. However you categorize it, though, animal communication features many of the same blessings, and problems, as other psychic skills.

One issue many people who use various psychic skills encounter are blockages to the input they are trying to receive. Once in a while even the most experienced psychic, or communicator, will find themselves saying, “I’m just not getting anything”. It happens, and it’s normal when it does. No human is perfect; we all have our bad days. There are various things that can cause the inflow to dam up, a key one being emotions.

In order to receive, we must have quiet minds. “Quite seas” is a term often heard, and it certainly does help when our mental and emotional waters are not being tossed about by a maelstrom. If we are troubled, worried, scattered, it is important to learn how to toss those distractions overboard, and return to a peaceful focus. If you were an animal, would you want to bare your soul if the mind trying to connect to yours was full of chaos? Even when the animal does want to share, our minds are in confusion, the thoughts and feelings won’t be received clearly.

During times like this, it’s best to establish a special focal point. When practicing meditation, if we build an image that we can use readily as a quieting focus, it gets the mind working in the right direction, blocks out the distractions, and allows the information to flow once again.

I have a special tree that always helps me to get more “rooted”. There is a book by Annie Dillard, called “Pilgrim At Tinker Creek”. In it, she uses a line which, though it’s just mentioned in one small section, has stayed with me for many years. “The tree with the lights in it”. This image affected me so deeply, that I’ve used the image as a focal point ever since, and it almost never fails to calm and ground me. Each person practicing any kind of psychic skill will have some special image of their own that will help them in the same way.

Quieting our mental seas will allow the waters to flow freely.

It is usually emotional turmoil of some sort that unsettles the mind, even if it seems like other things are the primary distraction. If our kids or pets are making a ruckus as we’re on the phone with a client, it’s easy to blame the kids and pets as the distraction … but it’s actually the resulting mental confusion and frustration that actually blocks the inflow. It is possible, with practice (lots and lots of practice), to get to the point that one can quiet our minds even in the midst of chaos. (I haven’t gotten there yet, but that’s what they tell me.)

There are, of course, some emotional blockades that simply run too deep to easily overcome. Even the best focal imagery won’t help us through the barriers, and at those times one must simply accept the limits, at least temporarily, as we continue to work through those feelings on a soul level.

For instance, for the time being, I am not accepting lost animal cases. This isn’t because I don’t like to do them … as, in fact, they can sometimes be the most satisfying consultations. It is because, due to a series of extreme changes in my life, I’ve lost the ability to block out the strong emotions of the people and animals involved in the situation. Those feelings, even though they belong to others, are so powerful (and rightly so) that I’m unable to receive clear imagery from the missing pets.

In situations like this, all we can do is to continue to test the waters periodically, to see if we’ve returned to our old levels of emotional control to the point that the barriers to receiving can be cleared.

There is no shame in finding that we’re blocked from receiving. It’s a problem that everyone who has feelings will eventually (and sometimes frequently) encounter. We can only try our best, and develop tools that will allow us to regain our emotional control and open the empathic gates again. If we work on our meditation practices we can build a repertoire of imagery that will often help us to return to the proper attitude of calm focus.

And always remember: as we practice animal communication with our own pets, and the pets of others, we always have a helper close at hand. There have been many occasions where one of my animals will tell me, “Calm down”. Those gentle reminders are usually a wonderful aid in returning me to quiet seas.

August Newsletter Will Be Late

Hello, Friends,

I want to apologize in advance for being late with the July newsletter. It’s not looking like I’ll get it out on time, but I still have plans to send one soon.

To update everyone: Life continues to be confusing here, and I wish to apologize, also, to those who are waiting for me to schedule consultations for them. My dad has been hospitalized since the 27th with congestive heart failure, and my time has been taken up running to hospitals, etc. He is having a procedure today that I’m hoping will help. Once he’s home, I expect I’ll be staying with him for a few days, at least, and will have no internet access unless I can run home for an hour or so to check on things. Nothing is definite yet … and I thank everyone for their patience as I’m dealing with a life that is so very up in the air.

Lastly, at least for the time being, I wish to thank those of you who have sent their prayers, hopes and good wishes our way. There is magic in the caring thoughts of others. It keeps me moving forward.

Back Home Again

I’ve currently moved back home, and am hoping,within the next few days, to be able to return to my normal routine. This means that phone and chat sessions will be reinstated as of later this week (once the technology is all hooked up and working again).

The Higher Self

It seems to be a common line of thought in the field of animal communication, both from the side of the client and from the side of the communicator, that animals are advanced spiritual beings, who can impart great wisdom from the higher plane. While it’s true that great wisdom can be ascertained from any higher connection, it has been my experience that the spiritual maturity of animals is as varied as that of human beings. While some animals have a lofty, sage-like feel to them when you reach for their soul essence, others are quite “earthy” and new. Some are extremely light and wise, others of a heavier, grounded energy that is on a more primal path.

It’s not necessarily so, however, that the earthy and new have less wisdom to share than the high sages. Growth comes at all stages, and it’s my opinion that we wouldn’t be reaching for them unless we have something to learn from them, in addition to being able to help them with the current steps in their journey. Very often, it’s the simplest lesson that is most poignant – and hardest to learn!

One frequent “higher self question” I encounter is that of past and future lives. Many owners wish to know if they and their animal friend have been together before. Many also desire a future connection, to have a pet who has crossed over return to them in a new body. While, occasionally, I will reach for an animal who has the answers to these questions, more often the response is that the animal also feels a connection from the past but isn’t sure what that connection is. Animals who have passed often show me that they do desire to return, but really don’t know when or where. Most of the time the latter question is one that can only be answered as the situations change and the fates align … the state of being in spirit does not necessarily mean that we can see into the future.

Some animal communicators are able to reach beyond such limitations. They will consult with angels, for example, or other high spiritual beings. Others seem to be able to tap into a sort of karmic record system and glean more information. Although I have done similar, it’s not something that comes naturally to me, and when it happens I’m pleasantly surprised that such connections have been made.

Just as most professionals have their own style, regardless of what it is they do, so do animal communicators. There really is no one right, or wrong, way of talking to animals. While you will find that some communicators tend to focus on physical-reality situations, others are more inclined to reach for the spiritual.

Some communicators have a instinctive knack for touching base with an animal’s higher self very easily. They will bring you information on things like spiritual purpose and reincarnation, things which the animal mind inhabiting the physical form may be no more aware of than you or I would be of our own pasts and destinies.

I, personally, tend to be more physically oriented when I talk to an animal. I receive things from the point of view of the animal who inhabits that body in its current form, exchanging telepathic and empathic information as it’s perceived in the here and now. This can be very useful in finding out physical symptoms of illness, for instance, or with training issues and other everyday life situations.

While I have, many times, communicated with the soul-essence of animals, speaking of things spiritual and philosophical, it’s more of a “pull” for me to do so (though there are exceptions, depending on the animal I’m working with). I find that I have to go deeper inside, to reach for an inner sense of peace and focus.

If you are studying animal communication, and wish to converse with your animals’ higher self, don’t be discouraged if it does not seem to come easily for you. Each of us has our own individual talents and style. You may simply have to find a more focus-intensive route–a method of raising your own vibration-essence to bring you to that plane of contact.

Don’t be disappointed if, when you do make that connection, your friend’s spiritual essence feels young rather than that of the proverbial “old soul” you may have been expecting to reach. Every animal is different, special and unique. The young have great wisdom to impart as well … thus the marvelous adage, “out of the mouths of babes”. Old soul or new, rejoice with whatever connections you make. By honoring each being as he or she is, and rejoicing in every exchange, you open yourself up a more wonderful learning experience.

Session Changes

I am still living away from home, and have no idea when I’ll be returning, so have had to make a change in how sessions are handled. Since needs here are immediate when they arise, which would lead to interruptions of phone and chat sessions, I am currently only able to offer sessions via email. I hope everyone understands, and that this is not a dire inconvenience. I know that many people prefer phone sessions, and ask for your patience while life is so up in the air. I’m still hoping it will be temporary.

I have tried to settle on prices which will be enough to offset some of the rising expenses, and at the same time not inconvenience my animal friends and their humans. Important Update, Session Change

Hello, friends!

I’m currently settled in to my Dad’s house and online, thanks to a dear friend’s assistance with wireless hookups.

However, life here is rather hectic, with needs that are immediate when they come up, and it doesn’t look like I will be able to handle phone (and other “live”) sessions for some time. I should be able to fit in email sessions, however, during the rare quiet moments.

Therefore, I’m “back”, with modifications. I apologize for not being able to manage the regular phone and chat sessions right now, and hopefully will find a way to return them to the routine soon. If you need to schedule an email session with me, however, I should be able to accommodate you.

Back Home Again

Important Changes

Pieces of the Puzzle (Understanding the Inflow)

There are many people doing animal communication, from professionals who facilitate communication between owners and their pets as a service, to pet owners who simply wish to understand their own animals better. There are as many different ways of receiving information from animals, as there are communicators. What I share in these articles is my own experience, and observations I’ve gleaned from many other examples, but of course these thoughts are not exclusive. You will find as many variations on the theme as you will people who agree that their experiences are similar.

Receiving information from an animal is, usually, not quite the same thing as having a conversation between humans. In many cases, it’s more like gathering pieces of a puzzle, which arrive in many shapes and sizes. You then face the need to put the puzzle together in a way that the human mind can understand. In addition to the various types of input that come through the connection, it also must be understood that what we are perceiving is from the animal’s point of view. This means that it is filtered through instinct, sensory perception, and physical space as experienced by that animal. Things may appear to be quite different than they would if we were simply observing them through human eyes, ears, and experience.

That said, I’ve discovered that the more an animal becomes used to speaking with humans telepathically, the more “conversational” the information may appear. Some animals are so accustomed to this form of communication, that it feels like I’m talking back and forth with them verbally. This, however, is the exception to the rule.

Most of the time, the information arrives in a wide array of forms. Sensory input; sights, smells, sounds, physical sensations; make up a large proportion of the inflow. The communicator will see images, smell scents, and feel things as the animal is experiencing them. This can be very helpful, particularly in situations where what is going on with an animal is not apparent on the surface. We’ve all said, “I wish he could tell me where it hurts”. With animal communication, a pet can do just that, although it’s more “relay” than “tell”. Quite frequently, the communicator will even experience the sensation as the animal is feeling it. It’s common for the person receiving the information to actually feel the pain or pressure, feel like they are surrounded by the smells, or have mental-vision flashes of what the pet is seeing.

Emotions are another way animals will tell us what is on their minds. A dog who experiences fear, for example, can combine images and memories with the emotion, and help us to understand what it is that triggers that fear. Pets can share how they feel about one another, or about their humans. It’s not that the animal is “telling us” how he feels, but rather he is showing us, as we experience the emotion directly through the connection.

This direct exchange of emotion and sensory input is called empathy. Rather than “telepathy”, which is what most people think of when they categorize animal communication, when we connect with an animal, we are often being relayed direct impressions rather than “word-thought”. Empathy and telepathy are closely related, though by definition “telepathy” deals more specifically with thought, while “empathy” refers to actually experiencing and perceiving things the way others do.

This relay of feelings and sensations can come through as direct experience, as well as memories of past situations. It can be very helpful to be able to help an animal sift back through his memory to find out what may have triggered a problem … or a pleasure. Animals are, by nature, very much “in the now” beings, and often need assistance in reaching beyond the moment.

Anything received from an animal is experienced from the animal’s point of view. In addition to living in the present moment, animals are very much creatures of instinct rather than reason, and emotion rather than logic. This is not to say that animals can’t reason or think logically, for they certainly can … they do, however, do so from within the confines of their own instincts and way of understanding their worlds. It can often be a challenge to get an animal to see things from a human viewpoint (though really, no more of a challenge than it is for a human to understand an animal’s perspective). For example, animals rarely have a clear understanding of human constructs like time, numbers, or monetary value. With help, they can be made to understand such things better, and see things from their owner’s point of view to some extent, but they have to reach beyond their world view to do so. It’s important to understand that the cat who is peeing on the carpets doesn’t see it as a problem. The cat doesn’t “get” the upset feelings over having to replace the rugs, until she can be helped to perceive the issue from inside the human perspective.

In addition to the need to perceive things from the animal’s instinctive world-view, physical vantage points must be taken into consideration. Although animals see color, for instance, we have no way of knowing if the colors they see are perceived in the same way our human brains translate them. To ask a dog, “what color is your favorite toy”, is pretty much useless. The dog can show us a color, but we’ll be seeing it from his physical vantage point: an object that appears blue through his eyes may in fact look green to human eyes, or vice versa. (This is just an example, I don’t literally mean that dogs see blue as green.) Likewise, a “huge field” to a cat, when seen from a human point of view, may be an average sized back yard.

When you reach for that very special connection with your animal friends, be very aware that what comes back to you may not quite be what you expect. If you think you’ll be holding a conversation, and instead get flashes and feelings, please do not think you have failed in your task. It’s very likely that you have made a valid and strong connection, and are accurately receiving the responses your pet is sending you. Trust the information that comes, even if it’s not what you thought you would receive. Try to see what you’re sensing from your animal’s vantage point, keeping in mind his instincts, and the different ways a dog, cat or horse will perceive his world. If you are acting as a go-between for a pet and his owner, also be aware that if things don’t make sense to you, it’s best to voice what you receive anyway. Often they will make sense to the person who knows that animal best.

By thinking of the information animals relay through our connection to them as pieces of a puzzle, rather than a “verbal” conversation, we are more open to receive, and we grow in confidence. We will be able to better help our animal friends, and grow closer to them.

It is by embracing our differences that we discover how much we have in common.

Big Changes Online

I’m very pleased with the response, so far, to the new website format. Thanks to all who’ve visited and emailed me, or commented on Facebook, that they are enjoying the new website. Please remember that there are many areas on the site where visitors can leave comments, ask questions, and interact with me and one another. I would love to see the site benefit as many visitors as possible, and your input is always welcome.

Testimonials

One section that has undergone a big change, for the better (I hope), is the Testimonials page. Now, those who have been pleased with their experiences may leave a comment directly on the site. If you would like to share, please feel free to visit the site, click Testimonials in the left hand menu, and tell site visitors your story.

Basic session up to 1/2 hour: $36
Per minute charge beyond the 1/2 hour: $1.20
Gift Certificates: 1 for $36, 2 for $70, 3 for $90 (which once again buys three for the “old” rate of $30/session)
