Our sweet DanciePants passed away on the 21st of March, 2007, after a brief but intense illness that turned out to be a systemic/blood infection. She is deeply and painfully missed, and we hold to the joy she has given us to sustain us in our time of sorrow. I had intended to change the contents of this page to word it as a memorial … but what better memorial is there than to celebrate a life well lived?
I’m Dancer!
I came to live with my family after my first human family’s home burned down. My littermates and I were all in the house at the time, and the firefighters saved all our lives. Friends of our humans took us in and helped to find us homes. I was the one they thought no one would want, yet I wound up in my permanent home the very night of the fire. My litter mates all got homes, too. I used to keep in frequent touch with my sister Emily until she passed away a couple of years ago, and heard from my sister Diana, too, who has also crossed over. We were the three little girls who stayed with our friend Eileen. My other sister Lillee now lives with Mom’s friend Carmella. As far as we know, as of winter of 2006, Lillee and I are the only members of our litter surviving.
My birthday: 6/20/93
You can see a picture of us, at Eileen’s house. Dancer, Diana and Emily. Diana is the lightest of the three, I’m the one cleaning Emily’s ears. You can’t see it here, but I was born with twisty feets. That is why they thought I’d be hard to place. But Mom knew better, and I’ve been happy in our home ever since that night.
Before I came to live with my family, there was another Saluki, Yoda. Yoda passed away a couple months before I arrived, and my Mom had a dream about him. He brought her a little gold Saluki girl and said, “Her name is WindDancer and she needs you.” That’s how I got my name. It used to be “Alma” … I think I like WindDancer better.
Me and Pascha
I have a best buddy. His name is Pascha. Pascha came to our house after my other best buddy, Jai, died. I was so very sad when Jai died, for a little while I never thought I’d be happy again. Then Pascha came and I grew to love him. Now we’re inseparable. Isn’t he handsome?
Pascha thinks I’m the cat’s meow. He’s right, of course. Ask Mom about the time she caught me looking in the mirror trying to decide if my ears look cuter “up” or “down”.
Multi-species Family
We have kitties, too, three of them: Pree, Sachet, and Sasha. And a bunny rabbit named Mavvy. I love the kitties, we snuggle together all the time. Well, except for Sasha — he isn’t too crazy about dogs, so he doesn’t like to snuggle with me. Mom doesn’t let me snuggle the bunny, though. Gee … I wonder why.
I like kitties so much that I found my Pop Pop a kitten. Recently, after our Nanny passed away, she sent us a little gray kitty to keep Pop Pop company. The kitty walked right up to me and Pascha on the back porch, and I said, “Come on in, my mommy will take care of you!” So she did! Pop Pop named her “Monkey”.
My Favorite Things
Besides playing with Pascha, I love comfort best. Well, I’m a Saluki, of course I love comfort. Some people don’t like to allow dogs on the bed, but since I’m not a dog, that’s not a problem.
Another favorite thing is suppertime. I’m a good eater. In fact I’m so good, I’ll sneak in and finish Pascha’s if he isn’t looking. Mom has to watch that, because she says I tend to put on too much padding if she’s not careful. I think I’m quite perfect, even with extra padding!
