In my last post on the Diamond Pet Food Recall, it was just the dog food brands. Yes, the list was growing daily, and has continued to grow. It's almost impossible to keep up with, as the information comes through in bits and scattered pieces, and many manufacturers are holding that information very close to the vest.

If you visit the FDA's pet food recall site, you will look down the list and see that it doesn't appear to have changed a great deal. Oh, but it has. And another thing you won't see on looking at the summaries is the fact that now Diamond has expanded the recall to include cat foods as well. Continue reading →

I’m sure most of you have been aware of the huge Diamond dog food recall that is going on now. It began with “a few lots” of Diamond brand foods and one Chicken Soup product which are produced in their Gaston, South Carolina plant. Over the past few days, more and more brands and products have been added to the recall. It’s gotten quite scary, reminiscent of the monstrous melamine contamination recall of 2007, when so many animals lost their lives. Continue reading →

What follows is a “feline owner-detective’s checklist”, of sorts; things to consider when facing a litter box problem, once it’s absolutely certain any potential health
causes have been ruled out. Of course, making sure there are no health issues should always be step one in trying to solve house-soiling troubles (for any species, though I doubt too many peoples’ horses are peeing in their sinks….). Continue reading →

There is an enthusiasm in their demeanor when our pets receive a treat or a kindness that tells us, without doubt, that they are thankful. They show us every day, in so many ways, that by just being in their lives, we make a difference to them. Continue reading →

The title of this post immediately brings to mind an image of a horse. Yes, I said horse. I was in my early teens, at a stable where I took riding lessons. I only met this young horse once, and the image of him has stayed in my mind since. His owner had him in the indoor riding ring, doing ground work with him. She was longeing him, as he had a bit of (shall we say) excess energy, and she was trying to shake it out. He was pretty much in perpetual, and often vertical, motion. Oh, he was going around and around, but like a carousel horse, there was quite a bit of up and down (and a little backwards on occasion), too. Continue reading →
