Links to Life

Where to start? I suppose a journey begins with those things that extend well beyond the realm of "interests", those things which we truly care about, which touch our hearts and souls.

My E-book/Blog, "The Crystal Pony"
In addition to self-publishing some of my books in PalmReader and PDF format (feel free to email me with inquiries), my childrens' novels, The Crystal Pony and The BondChildren were for some time hosted by the electronic publishing site, FreeFiction.com. Sadly, FreeFiction appears to have been taken offline, so I've recently converted Crystal Pony to a blog, where readers can enjoy the entire novel for free. Thanks to reader feedback, I've also published the first of its sequels, The BondChildren, in a similar manner. I'm hoping to follow with Wizard Prodigy, the third book in the trilogy, soon.
My other blog, "Creature Thoughts"
For some time now I've entertained the idea of starting a blog to ramble about animals, talking with animals, my connection to and the lessons I've learned from animals, and other esoteric and extraordinary things. The launching of "Creature Thoughts" is that idea taking form, and I have since followed it up with several other blogs, as well, covering slightly different (though oft related) topics: Stream of (Sub)consciousness (which includes my short stories about the greyhound Willow and her dragon friend).
The Good Medicine Society
Most of what I know about Native American Spirituality and the Peaceful Way of walking the Earth Path has come either directly or indirectly to me through the Good Medicine Society. Visit their lovely home page and learn more about the GMS.
The Gazehound's KidStuff
Children. This Earth's greatest resource, greatest hope. Visit my own KidStuff page for starters.
Feldenkrais
The day after Christmas, 2003, I severely dislocated an ankle. The foot was looking at the opposite leg and it took two ambulance rides, two emergency rooms, and an orthopedic closed surgery to get it back in place. After that, six weeks in a cast and over a month of painful physical therapy ... and the foot was still swollen three times its normal size and I could not put any functional weight on it. I was despairing that I'd never walk again, when my friend Cherie called from San Francisco. She told me not to give up hope, and talked me through what she referred to as a "Feldenkrais Bandaid" ... a very simple, gentle exercise. The following morning I woke up and half the swelling was gone. Within three days I was walking. I've since been doing Feldenkrais exercises at home via an instructive CD set and have located a hands-on Feldenkrais practitioner to help me with "Functional Integration" procedures. Thanks to this amazing form of movement therapy, I know that I will be walking normally again. If you have any form of mobility problem, pain problem, or anything where you feel that your brain and body aren't quite in sync, check out the above website. Feldenkrais may help you, too.
Spirit-Path Center and Community Spiritualist Chapel
Our friends Peggi and Bob are Spiritualist ministers who run a chapel and teaching center in downtown Middleburgh.

With Salukis being such a big part of my life, not to mention the source of my 'net nickname, it stands to reason that I'd invite you to learn more about them.

Amy and Amala!
Kai doesn't count (see Lin's entry) because he didn't pee on my carpet till after he was mine! Here are my Kai-Guy's breeder, Amy Charles, his siblings Zayn and Zafirah, him momma Zahrah, and our dear Uncle Dusty, in spirit.
Else Karin
My very special friend Else Karin Rossebo of Norway, and her lovely Salukis.

And we can't forget the other critters!

Links to Leisure

Special interests and relaxation time--what better way to learn about a person than to know what they do in their spare time. (Or to pick through their garbage, but this is neater.)

Daylilies!!
More Daylilies!!
More Daylilies!!
More Daylilies!!
Are we seeing a pattern here? The above links will lead you to Oakes Daylilies, the online grower from whom I bought my beginner's collection cultivars in 2005, the American Hemerocallis Society (Um, that's Latin for Daylily), the Hudson-Adirondack Daylily Society webpage, and a cool site by Texas Daylily hybridizer Bill Jarvis. There are lots of links on the above sites that will take you farther into the world of Daylilies than you ever thought it was possible to go!

CSI
Grissom and his crew, and all their pleasant passtimes. Like, you know, dead bodies and stuff. Lots of fun. "CSI: Miami" and "NY" are a pretty good spinoffs, too, but I still like the original better.
Star Trek
Two words say it all. Enjoy pix, info, and all sorts of goodies about all of the Star Trek series right here. "Enterprise" rocks!
StarGate SG-1
Join Jack, Sam, Daniel, Teal'c and all their cohorts on their adventures through the galaxy as they explore new worlds, meet new peoples, and defend the earth against the evil Goa'uld!
Medium
Follow the fictionalized adventures of real-life psychic Allison Dubois on this Emmy-winning NBC show. I personally like this one better than Ghost Whisperer, because I find it to be somewhat more true to life.
Bones
Not since my total addiction to The X-files have I been so giddily wrapped up in a show. Especially a show that my hubby isn't interested in! Maybe that's why I like Bones so much ... it's all mine!
House
The whole family's enamored of the irreverent, self-righteous Doctor Gregory House. And that cop in the 2006 season is absolutely THE most evil television villain ever to grace the screen!
Ghost Whisperer
CBS's answer to Medium? Maybe, and though not quite as good (in my opinion), still an enjoyable show. The spouse thinks Jennifer Love Hewitt's a cutie.
The Iroquois Indian Museum
Ten minutes down the road from me in Howes Cave is one of the finest collections of Native American lore, artifacts and culture in the country.

Tools for Your Electronic Needs

The best desktop computer Speed Reading training program out there! RocketReader for the desktop computer not only lets you know how fast you read and helps you read faster, it is a complete training program that includes speed tests, flash exercises, the ability to use your favorite websites as training readings, SAT preparation exercises, and much, much more. I went from about 350 words per minute to well over 500wpm in less than a week after installing the software! Install RocketReader on your desktop, and then take Read@Speed (above) along on your Palm ... the perfect combination for anyone who wishes to read faster and with greater comprehension! RocketReader has a 15 day free trial period so you can test out the software before buying, and is so thorough that it would make a fantastic addition to the reading skills department of any school.

Paint Shop Pro
Paint Shop Pro
Paint Shop Pro by Jasc, Inc. Excellent graphics program, recent editions concentrate on photo editing. Sadly, Jasc sold the product to Corel, and it's not the same old "PSP".

The GIMP
Want Adobe Photoshop but can't accumulate the funds? Try The GIMP and, if you want Photoshop's menu and tool layout, GIMPShop instead. Not quite as slick, but does a pretty nice job.

OpenOffice.org
Speaking of Open Source software ... the free office suite that rivals Microsoft Office in every way. Reads and saves seamlessly in MS Office formats, and did I mention it's free? Oh, yeah, I did, didn't I. Worth repeating!

Thunderbird and Firefox
More Open Source goodies ... which are only the best e-mail program and web browser in use today ... can be found at the Mozilla website.

Pick-A-Tag
Remember BBS's? FIDOnet? Great little mail and forum readers like BlueWave and SLiMeR, with their clever, taglines? No? Boy, you're younger than you look! Taglines: those funny, corny little random sayings that people "used to" append to their "qwk packet" email aren't necessarily a thing of the past! Get nostalgic, or just have fun, with Pick-A-Tag. It's a sharp little Win95/98 application that works with any mail program that uses a text based signature file (Outlook Express, Netscape, Eudora, Pegasus Mail, etc). Makes editing and adding to your collection a piece of cake by utilizing a simple text-based tagline file. Cool toy! And it's freeware! Pick-a-Tag is written by Jeroen van Baarsel. Have to admit, though, I used it more with Pegasus than with Thunderbird.
Picasa and Hello
Picasa is a nifty, and totally free, application that will help you to organize and view your digital photos, with some basic editing features built in. Combined with the (also free) photo-chat application, Hello. Pretty slick!

The above links are totally interchangable amongst their various categories, depending on my current mood ... or for that matter, for some of them, pure random chance. On subsequent visits, you may find them moved, added to, or even missing. Reality is, after all, what you make it.
Y'all come back now, y'heah?!
